Today the Democratic National Committee released the following statement in celebration of Pride Month. "Today, on behalf of Democrats across our nation, the Democratic National Committee pays recognition to PRIDE month -- a time to join together in celebrating the contributions that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans and their families make to our society. We also take this time to reaffirm our commitment to being a Party of inclusion and one that stands firm in promoting equality for every American. |

California Court Upholds Gay Marriage Ban |

The California Supreme Court has upheld a ban on same-sex marriage that was passed by the state's voters last November. The court also upheld the validity of 18,000 gay and lesbian marriages performed before the ban, called Proposition 8, was enacted. It was a mixed decision that brought angry gay rights supporters to the streets of San Francisco, where some were arrested for blocking intersections. |

The northeastern state of New Hampshire will become the sixth state to allow gay couples to marry when the governor signs new legislation adopted earlier this month, which is expected soon. This follows approval of the practice in a series of states, mostly in the northeastern region of the country. New Hampshire is one of four states that have acted in the past two months. Some proponents see this as a turning point in public opinion. |
